Which gives you more pleasure ? How do you feel when you can tell that the person to whom you have given a gift is disappointed ?

I don't really want for that much in the way of material gifts. Sometimes if somebody gives me something of emotional or spiritual value (like my parents did this Xmas) it gives me a great amount of pleasure.
Unfortunately, the pleasure i might get out of giving people presents is overcome by the stress beforehand in finding and buying it and the paranoia as I give it to them, worrying that they won't like it and so on. No I much prefer the immaterial, I know where I am with that .

I still would much rather give. If you can see that the person was disappointed, but tries to pretend that they like the present, I feel bad. Our 5 year old never told us he wanted a remote control car. We did not get him one. We did get one for our 11 year old. When our 11 year old opened up his present of the car, our 5 year old said 'I sure hope Santa brought me one too! .... continued...

He then started going through all the presents under the tree, looking for a remote controled car. Of course, he never found one. He never would say it, but you could see the disappointment all over his face. Broke my heart. So, come tomorrow, I'll be buying him a remote control car.

I love to give, I think its so rewarding.
I think I panic though, so im a little like Fluffy.I love shopping but its so hard buying for others, wondering if they will like the gift... there's always money, but then I feel I either forgot them, or I couldnt be asked lol. |

I believe that giving is better than receiving. For instance, I give coal to my nephews at Christmas time, but I hate it when they retaliate by short sheeting my bed. Therefore, I firmly believe it is better to give than to receive.

I'm going to be nice enough to stay out of this thread, because the title opens up too temptation.
