What Is Responsible Sex? (contraceptives, grace, sex, grace, religion)

What is responsible sex? Is responsible sex only about using contraceptives to avoid pregnancy and disease? Or is it also about other things, too. Such as, avoiding abusive relationships? Or refraining from having sex with someone you don't respect? Or being prepared to deal graceously with the emotions and issues that having sex with someone can raise? Or something else besides? What do you think?

Perhaps another way to look at this issue is to ask the question: If you were trying to teach children to exercise responsibility in having sex, what then would you teach them? Would you only teach them about using contraceptives to avoid pregnancy and disease? Or would you teach them much more than that? If so, what more would you teach them?

Responsible sex is only having sex to someone with whom you are responsibly married, and that you are responsible enough to take care of the consequences of having sex (whether that mean using contraceptives or raising a child).

What are your reasons for asserting this, Aqualung? Are they religious reasons, secular reasons, or both? Just curious.

It's probably half-and-half religious reasons and just my upbringing. (Though my parents brought me up with their religion...) Another thing is what I see happening. It just doesn't seem very responsible to go around sleeping with people all the time, because of the damage it can do to people's lives. Then again, this "damage" might only be perceptible with my world view (religious as it is).

Have your views on responsible sex changed any since you converted to LDS?
