While your belief is laudable, both science and constitutional law disagree with you. The consequence of not supporting HR 1652 is a higher incidence of unwanted pregnancies going to procedural abortion. I do not envy your dilemma in the choice of the constitutional rights of the living versus a potential living being but your constituency is among living citizens. The sheer magnitude of abortion in the United States is appalling.Should Roe v Wade be declared unconstitutional or other law passed that would effectively limit abortion, there were be a huge number of unwanted children born. Adoption is a meagre answer and, at those numbers, would become a financial burden on all governments. I would not be so crass as to suggest that monetary issues drive the discussion but I would suggest that, since it would be a government instance of giving birth, the obligation to the conceived must be extended to the delivered. I thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts and I appreciate the time you and your staff take in reading them. Last edited by Bright-ness' Shadow; 11-18-2005 at 11:11 AM. |
