Hey all! It's my first evening on this forum so I'm not sure if the issues I want to bring forth have been mentioned in the past and thoroughly discussed (I apologize if they do, but I'm sure you'll reply: "oh nonsense! you can talk about it again"). Well enough of that pointless intro
. Anyone familiar with Human Nature? Here's an earlier quote of mine about it: "The book, and the science, explains the true nature of "love" and other emotions. Basically, we are what we are because of the survival of our ancestors' genes. Our genes make us love our parents, because genes that in the past would have created a child to not care for his parents, would wander off into the jungle and most likely die. The science works like that, but in a more detailed fashion..." The book mentioned is "The Moral Animal" by Robert Wright. So basically, this is part of the science of evolutionary psychology which explains modern human behaviour from an evolutionary perspective. This rules out religion because it focuses on human beings as animals with instincts. I have much to say about the subject but I'll go into details in a later post if people catch on to the discussion. Ok, so this stuff is part of my view on life. Now I'm also an OBE adept. For those who have never heard of OBEs, well I'm sure you all have! OBE is short for Out of Body Experiences. I've had very limited experiences so far, but I know how to get out, which is the first step to take. I've explored, through the use of my "spiritual" existence, the physical world. In other words, I fly around unnoticed in our universe (mainly earth, and our solar system). Sounds crazy, eh? Well for all I know, I might be since I have yet to prove that its not all in my head. I've read books on the subject by Robert Monroe (maybe its the name Robert I'm after...). His experiences are far greater than mine, he explores different planes of existence and he gives a detailed account of these voyages where he got to know of the true nature of our existence: We're here by choice, we can come and live on the earth life system as many times as we want, there is a creator, we are all creators, blah blah blah (not saying its rubbish, but I need to see it for myself). Ok, so what do you think? I know I can see any place on earth and in the universe through OBEs, could I have created the beautiful places I have seen in my mind, I don't know. And according to me Human Nature is definitive. I can't seem to fit one with the other, and if Robert Monroe is right, HOW can I fit one with the other? ![]() Any thoughts, comments, corrections, refutations on the subjects? Thanks for reading! |

Well, as I understand it, scientific theories can always be revised with the addition of new data. Sounds like you may have some new data, eh?

Yeah I have new data, but I don't "believe" in human nature. I know we have a human nature which drives our lives on a daily basis. One does not rule out the other.

I never said they rule each other out, nor did I say you "believe" anything. I said that scientific theories can be revised with the addition of new data.
Perhaps I don't understand what you are asking; how do these things need to be reconciled? Where do they not fit with each other?

Perhaps I should have said this instead: Where does God come into play when we are but animals on this planet? Or where do our souls come into play, etc...

Well, the way I think of it is that we are not physical beings making a spiritual journey, but spiritual beings making a physical one. That is, we have a dual nature; at some point early in life our spirit-self was joined with an animal-self. The purpose of this joining is a matter of debate, of course, but I personally believe the point was to teach our spirits to master a physical body, like a rider taming a wild horse.
