Is there such a thing as common sense? It seems to me that many people believe there is, even though they cannot always agree on exactly what is or isn't common sense. Does the fact that people cannot always agree on what is or isn't common sense call into question the existence of common sense? What do you think?

Common sence is the state of something being obvious.
Then you can make the argument about what is obvious. I think that common sence and obvious(plus a bunch of other phrases and words that dont come to mind right now) are originaly derived from someone speaking humble like. But phrases with such open variables have allowed it to be used to complain. So common sence is common sence, isnt that obvious? |

According to a recent theory in psychology, humans do not have one single kind of intelligence that we all share in, but instead humans have any of eight or nine different kinds of intelligence. Common sense is not one of these kinds of intelligence. That is, common sense (as a distinct kind of human intelligence) does not exist.

I think common sense = logic. For example, if you're given a block and a ball and told to put one through a round hole, common sense will tell you to use the ball. This is going really basic, but you know what I'm getting at, hopefully...

I think common sense = logic[quote] true some people are missing common sense, although common sense being logic is something i dont quite agree with. common sense sometimes denies logic.

Common sense, is not something I understand well. I have been told several times I do not possess it when it comes to practical things. I must agree. I am a total moron when it comes to many simple tasks and confuse easily. But I still do not understand what it is. Are we really born with it? Is it subject to change and alteration? Is it really common? It is by how we are raised and brought up. Common sense appears to be different in many parts of the world leading me to believe it does not really exist. So if we make it into one idea or concept, we are not really using common sense.

I know this is General Debate but, I think this may have a strong tie with religion. I believe that we are not born with common sense. I believe that we discern things in our own manner. For example, is someone of another religion evil for what they believe, or practice? Of course the answer would be no, I believe we worshop God according to the dictates of our own conscience. I do believe however that once we obtain a concience, or in my opinion the spirit of the Holy Ghost, we have common sense.
To recieve a concience requires experience. It requires us to see the consequence of others actions. I do agree with Doc though, it is very hard to understand, because we always look from our view point. It is very hard not too. ....
