I wish they'd just stop these pageants altogether.

I wonder what the rules state.
Is enhancing surgery banned? Is being born female a requirement? I'd let'r compete, but I also understand that this is about entertainment, & the "yuck factor" is a legitimate concern.

According to The Huffington Post, there is nothing in the Miss Universe rules about sex changes or cosmetic surgery either one. Why do I have a feeling there will be if she doesn't win a discrimination lawsuit?
A change.org petition calling for the 23-year-old Vancouver native to be allowed to compete for the crown has so far drawn over 20,000 signatures. "She is a woman and deserves to be treated as any other woman would be," the petition reads. "What kind of genitals she was or was not born with (and even what kind of genitals she has today) is completely irrelevant." The petition also cites from the pageant's varied list of requirements before concluding, "There is no mention of rules regarding sex changes or cosmetic surgery." Source I, too, would like to see beauty pageants abolished, particularly those for very young children. |

I'd like to see what rule it was exactly that she reportedly broke. If cosmetic and gender-reassignment surgery are not forbidden by the rules of the pageant, then what rule was broken?

Pageant officials are trying to perpetuate the belief that if you're not born with Miss Universe-approved genitalia, you aren't really female.
The basic rule is that you must be female, never have been married or pregnant. |

I don't quite get the pageant board's concern; that men might make better looking women than women could?

Me too. What a god-awful platform of objectification.

I agree, how does that disqulify a competitant? Its not like this is the Olympics and she's competing in the boxing event or something.
