I strongly disagree with the claim that the Bible offers positive morality. I think that in general, it's easier to arrive at positive morality without the Bible than with it.

I think this points to a problem inherent in your suggestion: if the Bible is so good and moral, why would you need to sanitize it?

Matt Dillahunty has a challenge that I've heard him issue a few times now: "if you think that the Bible is 'the Good Book', then let me read a passage from it of my choosing to your children." AFAIK, nobody's taken him up on this challenge yet.
Yep, Leave It to Beaver was and is not a documentary, folks on the right wing tend to forget that.

That is an interesting challenge, I wouldn't imagine anyone taking him up on the challenge.

Obviously there is a good and bad way to teach religion, and I had the bad way due to old fashioned methods.

This can be modernised though.
Wait, you are seriously blaming your own "pick and choose" religion on being forced to go to church? Something that you are now advocating doing to the children of the remainder of the world? Wow.

Purple is a mystic color.
Yellow brick roads are content to be followed,
but Purple Paths,
well they like to play hide and seek.
(which means they will change their way/s, just for fun)

Children have also been known to draw their own worlds into being
Via Purple Crayon.
And we certainly can't have that.

Controlling Adults are more frequently known for creating their worlds Via rules and ruler/s.
I still harbor hope that even the testiest & fundiest might learn the way of purple.

I'm wondering if he would be fine with it if Christianity was determined to be detrimental and so was considered not suitable for schools? He talks of a "policy board" but then wants to try to set up himself as the one determining what they can choose from to make these policies. Honestly, if Christianity, and possibly the rest of the Abrahamic religions, were disqualified from being taught, would he still be so much for religion being taught in school?

He'd change his tune if his kid came from home saying this.....

What would be better is to teach more critical thinking skills and less useless facts. But teaching people how to think for themselves is a bigger no-no than teaching religion.

Here's the thing martin, you say this religion should be banned and that religion is "mumbo jumbo", but the fact remains, pick a religion, any religion, and there will be millions of people who will say that it should be banned because it's nothing but "mumbo jumbo". Including christianity. That is why this idea fails. Why should families subject their children to "Religion X" if they disagree with everything about it? Not everybody believes there is a god regardless of what some "policy board" says.
