Censorship good or bad? (beliefs, sex)

In general, I fall heavily on the "bad, very bad" side. I don't like censorship, and I'm not supportive of it . Let the government stay out of public speech as much as possible.

I think people should learn to censor themselves, but should not have forced upon them. No, I do not support government censorship in any shape or form.

Need to do some clarification.

Sort of, if I pay for it, it should be uncensored, free, censored.

Means basically things like public radio and public TV should be uncensored. Pay per view and satellite radio should be uncensored, as well as CDs of any kind. No direct stance on the internet, however.

This means the current system is perfect. It support the censorship of certain paid products like CDs, however public access radio and TV can be uncensored after 10PM when kids are less likely to be listening/watching. Internet is not censored at all.

I hope I helped clarify that, I was even confusing myself.

Censorship by the government (except in cases of pornography) goes against my beliefs.

Censorship by market forces is perfectly acceptable.

Well, the "system is perfect now!" one let's the company determine whether to censor, while the if I pay for it, uncensored, would not allow the company to censor it.

I am not sure that I understand entirely the question, but I think that the government has a responsibility to sensor some things, escpecially when viewed in public places. For no other reason than there is stuff out their that young kids should not be exposed to yet. Or even some adults for that matter, when they don't know how to handle it. I am refering to the censorship of sex and violence on public television, radio and advertising.

I think you would qualify more under the curretn system is perfect rather than the total 100% censorship of everything.

The absolutely none at all is more, say you want to go to an R rated movie, there would be absolutely no swears and such. Or if you pick up a book, instead of "damn", it would be "$#*(". There would also be limited violence over any medium, if not any violence at all. Basically anything that could barely be considered suggestive would be banned entirely.

In fact, now that I think of it, there wouldn't need to be a movie rating system anymore, because there would be nothing to distinguish them on!
