"You were all once paupers, living in various levels of squalid existence. Drunks, gamblers, and petty thieves who's lives would have meant nothing were it not for a strange fellow who went by the name of Finn. An eccentric noble generally considered too crazy to associate with, Finn saw something special in each one of you and offered to repay your debts and give you a second chance at life. His gift was not free however. Although he has never said what he expects in return for a second chance at life, it is clear he picked you for a reason."
It was just yesterday afternoon that you accepted Finn's offer. Since then your life has greatly improved. Given food and lodging for the night, you awaken in a luxurious bed in Finn's castle. Unfortunately, the castle doesn't seem quite the same as it once was. Your room appears just as it did the night before, but there is a strange feeling deep inside each of you: an ominous feeling that this room is no longer safe. Spoiler for Room Description:
OoC:Okay, looks like we can get going now. You are all in the same room, and are experiencing the same feeling. You may now talk amongst yourselves or attempt various actions. Just go wild, but remember, some things may not work out quite how you planned.

after taking some time to look over all the other people in the room, Eddy Slow is the first one to get out of bed, stretch, and go examine the large chest in the room. on inspection of the chest i can see the thick seal of wax holding it closed, i go round the room taking the candles and then place them next to the chest with the flames close to the wax, watching the wax slowly start to drip away.

As the wax melts away, a terrible stench fills the room. The smell is unbearable, and a thick black smoke begins to float off the chest, obscuring the view of the room. After the wax has melted, the lid of the chest is freed. Through the smoke, a small glittering can be seen through the crack that the wax once filled.

The lid lifts easily and you find a small cylindrical object. Upon closer examination, it appears to be a key of some sort.

The chest is about 3 feet long, 1 1/2 feet tall, and a foot deep. Through the smoke you notice that the wood is light and worn, and rather dusty. Inside the chest you can see the keylike object, but the rest of the space inside is still very dark and murky from the smoke, obscuring the view of anything else that would be inside.

.IC: As you feel around the box, you hear a faint *click* and feel something moving. A rush of adrenaline flows through your body as you see a flash of light and something flying very quickly towards your hand.
