While covered bridges are sometimes called kissing bridges, the real reason for the covering is to protect the bridge's truss design from the weather.
The longest covered bridge in the world was built in Lancaster County in 1814. It crossed the Susquehanna River between Columbia and Wrightsville, a distance of over a mile (5,960 feet). Ice and high water destroyed it in 1832. ![]() Last edited by Ðanisty; 04-13-2007 at 07:12 AM. |

![]() My son and I spend alot of times in these woods. But alot of the beautiful land is gone. We have some many people building huge homes from the Phila and New York area. Plus so many stores that never used to be here. I mean We have so much already. I don't want to see more of this beautiful land distroyed for huge houses.
