Ok, I don’t know how many people know the game Mafia. But, seeing as we have a lot of people on this forum, it could be fun. I’ll post a quick outline of the rules here, and if anyone wants to play they can post and we’ll see if we get enough participants. The game is explained in depth on Wikipedia- it’s often described as “informed minority v uninformed majority”.
Because there are a lot of variations, I’ll assume Host status and propose a gameplay here for anyone who wants to play: We have a group of people. A couple of them are the mafia, and the others are villagers. We also have a doctor and a seer. Their roles are random and secret and handed to them privately by the game host at the beginning of the game. The point of the game for the villagers is to identify and lynch the mafia. The point of the game for the mafia is to pretend to be villagers and have innocent players killed until only the mafia are left. The game is divided into night and day. Every night, the mafia secretly tell the game host which player they want to kill. The mafia players know who their partners are, but no one else does. When the day breaks, the game host tells everyone who died during the night (not the role, as roles are only revealed during a lynching), and the villagers put people on trial if they think they are mafia. After an accusation, everyone votes "guilty" or "not guilty". If there's a majority of guilty votes, the player is lynched and his role is publicly revealed. If there's a majority of not guilty votes, the player is off the hook and the villagers get to accuse someone else. When someone has been lynched, we go back to night phase. Two special roles: The doctor is on the villagers' side. Every night, he gets to save one person by privately telling the host who he wants to save. If that happens to be the same player the mafia were targetting, then he is saved and no one dies that night. It is not revealed to the gameplayers who the mafia attempted to kill. The seer is also on the villagers' side. Every night, he gets to investigate a person by privately telling the host who he wants to investigate. When morning comes, the host tells him whether this person is mafia or innocent. I remember this game making no sense to me when it was first explained, so don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if you need it. Anyone interested? Bearing in mind for the duration of the game, it’d be useful if you could log on at least once a day. It can be played with as few as 7 people, but I’m hoping that more would like to take part so I’ll leave the thread open for a while… |

Yay. I'm so glad we have some takers...
Just to clarify, as I've asked a few people and I thought I ought to clarify: - you don't need to know how to play, or be good at role-playing- we're not expecting any thespians! - it won't take a lot of your time. Just a PM every now and then if you have a special role, and to visit this thread to vote on lynchings. As we have people from different time zones, once a day is probably about as frequent as it'll be. Everyone can manage that, right? ![]() I'll leave a bit more time for everyone to see the thread and decide if they want to play. ![]() |
