Do you have a favorite saying or adage that rings particularly true to you?
As I was playing solitare I moved a card I did not have to at that time. I lost the game.In thinking back I realised that the uneccesary move had cost me the game. I thought to myself," always keep your options open". As I thought more about it I realised that it applied to more than just a simple card game and is a wise stategy when used in many aspects of everyday life. But it could have some darker implications to it. Anyway,, I'd like to hear from others about some of their thoughts on their own adopted words of wisdom , maybe give a little explanation. Theist and non theist participation would be wonderful. I POSTED THIS IN THE DISCUSSION SECTION AS TO AVOID DEBATE OF OTHER PEOPLES PERSONAL THOUGHTS. If you don't like what someone else says, let it go, please. Thanks Dan

I think human relations would be much more harmonious if everyone followed my favorite saying:
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity." I've seen too many conflicts begin because one person did something stupid, then another person "retaliated".

![]() I've said tons of things that make me go, "wow, did I just say that? I must be smart!" (dont worry though, it only lasts for a few minutes before someone gives me an opposing statement that shatters the pedistol i formerly stood on) |

Two good ones:
"Hulk smash!" and "This is a job for Superman!" Seriously, though, I like "Know thyself," "Nobody's perfect," and "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." In the first, I must examine myself first, and only then, can I discover my shortcomings to properly examine the world. The second adds to the latter. The third is the principle I try to follow.

This is not being pretentious (Promise!). Being a family with such distand and manyfold roots, I have always liked the idea of designing a family crest; family crests always have mottos.
As it happens, I came accross Virgil’s “Omnia Vincit Amor et nos cedamus amori” or, “love conquers all; let us too, yield to love!” - which has been my personal motto (The first part of it anyway) for years and years . Off topic the Belgian National symbol is a lion Rampant, so I guess I am well on my way............ ![]()

My Grandmother always says this to me. I find it very beautiful. |
