A novel and strange experience....

I had spent the most of this morning in hospital; I had come home, had lunch, and was at my computer, posting on this forum.

(The reason I explain what I had been doing before is simply to explain that I had been stressed); I was tired.

At one stage, I decided I needed to go to the bathroom; I made the conscious thought to get up. As I did so, I became confused; where was the bathroom? I wasn't frightened, nor worried, I was just trying to think of which way I should walk when I got outsided the room.

As I got uo from the chair, and opened the door, I was shocked to find myself not where I had been thinking. While getting up, I had pictured the layout of my parents' house where I lived when I was a teenager. As I opened the door I was confused; it took me a few moments to think "Hang on, you are in this house....not that one "...............

This has never happened to me before; I was aware of a great feeling of nostalgia that I felt as this was happening; as soon as I recognised this house, the nostalgia disappeared.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this before ?

The only logical explanation I can think of was that I was so engrossed in what I was doing, and that there must have been some sort of 'trigger' thought, that 'connected' me to a similar thought and occasion in the old house....maybe words, colours, a smell; whatever it was, I can't pin it down. But, as I sit here, I can confirm that for perhaps thirty seconds, my mind flipped back 36+ years .

I am not worried about the incident, just curious, and wanted to share, and to know if this rings a bell with anyone else.

I had a similar incident occur a couple years ago.

I'd been having a problem with insomnia so took some lorazepam after I got home from work so I'd get a good seven hours sleep before going back to work -- (I work >12 hour shifts).

When my alarm went off I got up to find that some stranger had been in my house! Someone had come in and overfilled my rice cooker with, oddly, my customary mixture of rice and barley. There was half cooked rice overflowing all over the counter!

Evidently I'd got up at some point, mucked about my kitchen in a half trance, then returned to bed. I had absolutely no recollection whatsoever of doing this. I'm lucky I didn't burn the house down!

Michel, you, by any chance hear some strange music and a voice saying "Welcome to the twilight zone"?

The closest thing to that is when tired, go to sleep on the road, wake up, look outside your truck, and not have the foggiest idea where your at, let alone what State your in. Takes a few minutes to clear your head and figure it out.

For a fleeting moment, as it was happening yes; but as I said, I immediately began to 'work out' the possible causes (i.e some sort of trigger, a noise, a smell, whatever.........). While I suffer from depression, I have been told very frequently that I actually have a good analytical mind by those who ought to know. Besides the fleeting thought that I might have been losing my mind; I factored in the stress I had been under this morning. (I had to go to hospital to have a tumour in my mouth investigated; although I was satisfied in my own mind that it had nothing to do with Cancer, My Doctor, wife and sons weren't so sure........I was right. I have what is apparently called a 'fistula', will need to have another dead tooth removed, and the gum will have to be cut open and cleaned up. Not exactly looking forwards to it, but it could have been a lot worse).

No; I guess I am lucky, but I have my feet firmly on the ground (despite the impression I sometimes give); I am used to playing 'mind detective'

Though startling, Michel, this is nothing to be worried about. These "bleed thoughs" are probable (or possible) realities. I have had a couple of things like this happen, and curiously in the house I grew up in. It is like a phase shift of a sorts, or an alternate perspective, at least it was for me.

LOL! I can type, (which I'm doing now), talk on the cb, smoke, drink coffee, pat my head and rub my stomach, all while driving! Note. I have 2 million non-chargable accident free miles under my belt. And I only do this on open roads, never in traffic.
