![]() I'd like to blame them looking bad on the camera, but... ![]() The bottle is based off a picture I saw of a sake bottle from ancient Japan (that's what the kanji on it says; 'sake'), and the bowl was based off an illustration in one of the many handouts Mr. McClain has laying around. I'm kind of disappointed with the bowl, since I layered glaze really thick in the hopes that it'd be really runny, but it had other things in mind. And I swear, it doesn't look nearly that unbalanced IRL. I think I like sculpture a lot more than making pots. To me it's hard to get everything balanced on both sides, even with a template to scrape with. |

Jensa,
Do you throw these on a pottery wheel? That's something I've always wanted to try.

Unfortunately, no. Our school hasn't got the money for a potter's wheel. It's always something I've wanted to try, though. These were hand-made, which is part of why it's so aggravating to get it all even.

A potter's wheel is a pretty simple device. Does your school have a wood shop or equivalent? Maybe they could make one.

Good work. The bowl is nice but I prefer the bottle. It is simply because I like darker colors and elongated shapes. Nicely done, my dear. Keep up the good work. How much does a wheel cost? Let me know, please. Perhaps I could emplore our carpenter at work to make one for you guys. He is a very kind fellow, always building something at his church. I will talk to him about it. If it won't take up too much time, maybe he will do it for you.

I think it very much depends on what kind of wheel it is, but they usually cost in the way of several hundred dollars if you buy one. A quick Google search revealed they can cost as low as $75 to make, but I couldn't ask that of you or the carpenter.
However, I would like to thank you for offering, since if you had not I wouldn't have Googled how to build one Since it's not that expensive, I'll show it to Mr. McClain and see what he thinks of getting the construction class to build one. (That'll have to wait until after the senior art show, though... he's tripping over himself right now from stress) |
