Vacation dining. Stuff you get to eat when you're on vacation, special to where you're visiting.
This started in the White Trash thread, which went OT into a discussion of Navajo Tacos. I'll start with another one, assuming this still exists, because it goes back to my childhood in the Jurassic Age. On the Beach at English Bay in Vancouver, Fish and Chips in newspaper. With vinegar! Oh yeah, to be young and skinny and on English Bay in July. ![]() + ![]() (p.s. I'm so old when I was there, the apartment buildings weren't.)

I havent been very far from the south on "vacation" so it was mostly varying brands of "pork skins" and different types of pickeled eggs.
I did have Jerk Chicken in Jamaica..And when I lived in upstate New York I swear they had the best pizza in the world in the one pizza joint that existed in our village.Cant find it here. And beleive it or not they had some pretty tasty "fish and chips" they fried only on Fridays at the "Moose Club".. Oh and down on the coast of Alabama ..Gulf Shores/Pensecola Fla. area when in season the Royal Red shrimp? I swear to you if you think lobster is a treat?? These large red shrimp steamed without even dipping them in garlic butter make your eyes roll in the back of your head in delight. And you swear you would eat them every day if you could. Love Dallas

When I was in the Florida panhandle all the seafood was wonderful, and everything was served with hush puppies and sweet tea.

When I first came to Denver and was offered a breakfast burrito I was shocked and appalled by the suggestion that a burrito could contain potatoes. Now I know it's a marvelous contribution to the world's cuisine.
Every restaurant in Denver serves breakfast burritos, including the Greek ones.

I just remembered some local-ish vacation food: Weber's Burgers.
It's a burger place on Highway 11 near Orillia, on the way from Toronto to "cottage country" in Muskoka. They just sell burgers and fries, but they're not just burgers and fries. It's hard to explain - you just have to go there yourself. To give you an indication of the popularity of the place: they had to build a footbridge over the highway because so many people were crossing the road to get to it that it was creating a safety hazard. People were literally risking life and limb to get to these hamburgers. ![]() Just be prepared for a 30- to 60-minute wait if you stop in on a Sunday afternoon in the summertime. |

Another very weird Colorado thing the world could do without: The Jalapeno Bagel. That's America to me.
