It is the misfortune that our society is stratified into nuclear units where children are so dominantly controlled by one or two individuals. Increases the likelihood of indoctrinated bigotry and outright stupidity.

It may seem reasonable to suggest that if one cannot move past their own bigoted viewpoint than it would be better to give their children up for adoption. After all, why doom them to a stunted intellect.

Am I generalizing someone unfairly? Is it wrong to do so? Have I mistakenly equated anyone with undeserved and undesirable behaviors and/or mentality?

Update.

After the teacher's announcement only one student (that I know of) stated her parents wanted her removed from the class room, but apparently they had a change of heart as she was never removed.

Also, my daughter just received her report card for the first trimester. She really is blossoming under this teacher and has already satisfied the grade requirements expected for the end of the year. She's testing at about a grade and a half above where she's at and will be taking a test for a gifted program in December.

Imagine the learning experiences she'd be missing if my wife and I were intolerant biggots.

It's good to see that your daughter is doing well. Part of that is attributable to the efforts of the teacher, part to your daughters gifts and work ethic, and a great deal to you and your wife, for setting high (but acheivable) goals.

Congratulations on the success of your daughter, as well as your openmindedness.

Your daughter is learning a lot more than what is being taught in that classroom.

Of course times have changed A LOT since I was in third grade, but at that age, it wouldn't even have occured to me that there was anything "unnatural" or "wrong" about my female teacher marrying another female. I would have probably thought it was "unusual," because it was literally unheard of back then, but that's about as far as my curiosoty would have taken me. I might have thought it impossible for a woman to marry another woman, but at that age I thought it was impossible for a woman to be a doctor or for a man to be a nurse.

You know..on that line of thought?..You know how many young boys will say..when I grow up Im going to get married to my "mother"...or little girls saying they want to "marry" their daddy's???..Its like Alceste said..Its the age of "I came out of my momies belly button"...

Oh and not to mention..many little kids that age will have "homosexual" experiments or "play"..Even as innocent as two girls "playing house"..One has to be the husband/daddy...Or how about "lets rub our butts together..tee hee"...

Yeah - that reminds me of one of my favourite teachers in high school. She mentioned her son a lot, but never mentioned a husband. Then one day her son came to the school and he was black. (She was white). Being from Alberta - the Texas of the north - this was something I had never seen before, so it struck me as odd. I spent about 2 minutes trying to work out how that might have happened, but it didn't take any longer than that to integrate the reality of interracial families into my world view and it never struck me as "odd" again. Maybe that is what the right wing wack jobs fear more than anything - the ease with which young people can integrate and accept new information.
