Another ancient monument: A wife's love (priest, translation, pagan, bishop)

I found this tonight and thought it may be of interest to some of you.

It is a monument that a husband made for his wife in late 300s CE by Praetextatus.

Praetextatus was a wealthy pagan aristocrat in ancient Rome and a high priest in the cults of numerous gods. In reference to Pope Damasus I's allegedly luxurious lifestyle, he reportedly joked to him "Make me bishop of Rome and I will become a Christian".

Surely you read the crown (she writes to her husband):

Exempla de me Romulae matres petunt.
Roman mothers give me as an example.

Optant nunc uiri (viri) nunc feminae quae tu magister indidisti insignia.
Now men, now women want (optant) the insignia that you, my teacher, gave to me.

Ego felix maritum si superstitem (superstitis, surviving) mihi Diui dedissent,
