By hand in the sink or with a dishwasher?
We do not have a dishwasher at our house, but I actually prefer by hand. First of all, I know if a dish or glass is clean before rinsing it and putting it in the dish drain. Second, it's actually kind of relaxing. I like to light a candle close by when I wash dishes to further the mood. Peace, Mystic |

I wash them by hand most of the time. Sometimes if I have several guests over I will use the dishwasher. But you have to pre wash everything anyhow...so sometimes if i feel i need a break... i just use the other dishwasher.........(my son)...lol

I wish I had a dishwasher...a lot of times my hands hurt too badly to do them, and then they sit (unless my BF does them) until I can hold them and wash them...Then my hands will hurt all over again..

I get my son to unload the dishwasher and my husband to load it.
![]() Well, there are some things better washed by hand -- large items, anything with silverstone coating (they spot awfully). I avoid buying cookware or dinnerware that can't be put in the dishwasher. When I'm at Mom's for extended periods, I wash by hand, as she's done for years. |

There are a few times when cooking pots may need a soak before they get quickly brushed down and put in, but they'd need soaking before hand washing as well. If we're on watering restrictions due to drought, I know that the disposal uses a lot more water than people think, even if I'm quick and very careful about it. In those cases, I put the plug in and brush things down using just the one partial sink of water. When I'm done, then I pull the plug and run the disposal. It's a lot better waterwise than just letting the tap run while everything gets scrubbed. ![]() |

My parents not being cool enough to get a dishwasher when remodeling the kitchen years ago ("We don't have room for one"), I wash dishes in the sink. I've never used a dishwasher, but I can only imagine how awesome they must be. I'm jealous of all who own them. My preferred method of washing dishes is to get the sink water steaming hot and using the sprayer. Takes everything off, even hardened-on sauces. Don't even need to break out dish soap.
