Preferred Method of Birth Control (contraceptives, myth, abortion, sex)

What is your preferred method of birth control? Why did you select that method rather than the others available? Have you had any side effects? What do you think of tubal ligation and vasectomies as an option for people who do not want any (more) children? Should they be more widely available?


Note: I intend for this to be a discussion of varying methods, from the rhythm method to the pill. Please take debates elsewhere.

Not having sex with men. I don't think that's quite what you meant, though.

I did use birth control pills for a few years to ease cramping pains, and it worked marvelously (for that, anyway. I never tried the other use!).

I do think tubals and vasectomies should be easier to get than they are... especially tubals. I've heard so many horror stories of women going to doctor after doctor and being turned away because they "might change their mind" when they've known for years they don't want children.

I just didn't want to pull the abortion thread any further off-topic and, yes, your input is welcome! I know quite a few women who MUST use oral contraceptives for health reasons.

I cannot take oral contraceptives because they tear my system apart. I cannot tolerate spermicides either. My husband is going to get a vasectomy as soon as we are done having children.

We use 'the pill' and most of the time condoms too (without spermicide).

It's worked like a charm for six years.

Spermacide, which Mythbusters proved that Coke is not a good one. I have no idea why anyone would want to use Coke in the first place. Sounds messy and potentially very sticky. Could make doing other stuff more fun though.

The pill although I hate it. I think I'm getting that tubal ligation because I've recently decided that i'm not having anymore children and I have one child.

Before I had my tubes tied I tried everything available at some point. And looking back I can't believe I didn't get pregnant more often. Didn't like the pill, got pregnant with my daughter while using a spermicidal sponge, hated condoms and used spermicides the most often.

If I had to worry about it now...I would try the implant device or a patch I think. But, would probably have the same issues as the pill. Sure is a pain to have to worry about it all the time though......I feel for you guys and girls.
