I have not had a drink, er, this would be the 3rd nite. I am definetely an alcoholic from this quiz, lol. Ten definites, 4 has happenned, or sort of. I will also add, for pain relief, to relieve all the anxiety of the mental and physical stress of a day, and vodka is soooo, warm and makes me feel good. But, normaly, I drink in moderation, rarely getting drunk to where I am not in control and alcohol is. But, yup, definetely an alcoholic, no doubt. Was a stoner for, like, um, what was I saying, oh, yeah, for about, 15 years, smoked cigarettes even longer, but very rarely last 5 years, used to do LSD, tried coke, crack, mushrooms, valium, pain killers, um, lots of drugs I forget what they were...lots, lol. But, definetely a hard drinker in most peoples eyes. Have battled with addiction for 22 years, since I was 18. Mostly I have been winning, with God's help.

I think this quiz is a bit like the whole mental illness thing...realistically speaking most people who drink would be able to answer yes to enough questions to qualify. It's the frequency and circumstance that isn't taken into account by this sort of thing that's equally as - if not more - important than the fact you answered yes. For instance: Have you ever felt remorse after drinking? I answered yes to that, because I punched someone once - and he rightfully deserved it at the time, and I probably would have punched him sober as well - but thinking about it later I thought I would rather have not done it at all. The remorse wasn't so much about the drinking as it was about the fact I wasn't the 'bigger person', but as I'd been drinking at the time, the answer to the question was yes. I also recall one time when I was about 22, and life was really starting to get on top of me. After a particularly dismal day, I got home from work, opened a bottle of wine and proceeded to start drinking. I also made a miserable phone call to a very good friend and proceeded to spend 45 minutes crying down the phone to him whilst in a state of sozzledness. Got up in the morning and things seemed a lot better. I don't think either of those qualify me as an alcoholic, despite being able to answer 'yes' to more than one of the questions in the quiz. Though maybe the day my girlfriends and I had beer and chocolate for breakfast on our annual 'girls week at the beach' might. But that was a once off too. ![]()

Yeah, and besides alcoholics go to meetings, I just like to drink a bit, lol. But I have known and know people who binge drink 24-7, don't work, smoke packs of cigarettes a day, and anything else to block out reality. Some have died, or gone to jail or rehab and such. I have usually realized when I went too far, and screwed up, and backed off a bit. Each person is different, and people in very emotional situations, like a relative of mine who has been through a LOT, (separation from abusive husband, and much more), went through this, she believes in Jesus, yet went into a deep depression and got hooked on beer and cigarettes very heavily, and she never did party before. I have friends who I can't go around, because, once they start, they don't stop until they have wreaked great destruction all around, pretty scary stuff. If one does not drink, that is good, if one does, just be careful and know your limits, and if you are in a vulnerable state of being. If you are angry or depressed, think twice, and if you drink, stay home, with friends, and don't drive!!!!!!!

I just finished bottling 2 cases of wine. Highlight of my month, easily. They should've had a question along the lines of: "if walking home with a case of booze is a buzz upon itself..."

I have a cupboard full of fortified wines and spirits, I have an overflow ,all spirits,
in the bedroom, I have about a case of beer in the spare room. I almost never touch the stuff most of the spirit is over 20 years old and improving. I would say I drink as much communion wine in a year as I do the real stuff. Why have I got so much... Given to me a bottle at a time... but I never got round to drinking it. I have been a heavy drinker since I was 16 years old. I am 54 now. I have quit many times.....about 1,2045.
I have a very high tolerance for alcohol and it is not unusual for me to drink at least a pint-a fifth a day of Vodka with orange juice. I have been in treatment a couple times and am now attempting to quit again. Most people would not even know if I was drinking except for the odor. I rarely ever drink and drive. I usually start drinking in the evening after I am settled in for the night. I have never recieved a ticket for drunk driving but have been stopped several times many years ago. They always let me go after showing them my State ID when working at the BIG HOUSE.

Like you Bang Bang, I have an incredible tollerance for alcohol.
I have been known to drink two or even three bottles of wine, followed by port and then Brandy.....and then go and have a few swigs from whatever I had, stashed in hiding places. The strange thing is that I could go without drink for a long time (if we happened not to go where there was alcohol), but once I start........... I gave up on May 8th last year, and had (if I remember rightly one glass of wine and a few glasses of Brandy over Christmas - but all above board, one an evening, in the open) Last night I had four pints of beer and half a bottle of Brandy - all because James went back to Uni. It's a long story, but my wife is one of these women who has to worry about anything she can worry about; if she can't think of anything, she'll invent something. James was going to Spain for a few days before going back to uni, and his Mum started worrying about the flights, being driven in Spain..........I just had enough. All the best laid plans just went flying out the window. It reminds me of what I know is one of an alcoholic's commandments "Never say you will never drink again" (because the chances are one day you will) , and then, you will never trust yourself again. So the theory is that you take one day at a time, and get up each morning saying I will try to get through today without a drink. If you can do that, you have lots of minor victories! ![]()
