I'm not sure where this belongs, so mods: feel free to move it, delete it, edit it to your discression.
Okay, well I have been told all my life to never change myself because God made me the way I am. So when I got glasses (i was 6) i hardly wore them because i thought it was taking me away from being close to God. I refused to let anyone cut my hair because God would grow it to the length he wanted it. I hated the idea of plastic surgury, braces, coloring hair, anything changing who I was. (And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call a fanatic! *smiles*) I changed my outlook on all those things later on... but that's another story...Well, some Christians I talk to nowadays tell me that plastic surgury is horrid beacuse they change the way God sees them. I, always having that kind of mindset, think otherwise now, and that what people do to themselves is to their discression with their Gods. I dont think it hurts personal relationships with God any more than coloring your hair, wearing high heels, wearing clothes, or anything. So is plastic surgury bad or wrong? Do you think it takes you away from god? |

Hmm. This is hard. Glasses and braces are for correction. In the long term, your eyes can get worse without corrective lenses, and your bite may get worse. With a face lift, I don't know. I can see the benefits of reconstructive plastic surgery, or any other surgery for health reasons.
If someone wants plastic surgery because they are dissatisfied with how they look, go for it. Personally, I think that they need a self esteem boost or something of that nature. But on the other hand, I don't think its wrong for someone wanting to look good. Though one must always be wary of the extremes. ![]()

I'm not a big fan of plastic surgery.
Reconstructive surgery is a wonderful thing. I can fully understand someone who wants to look the way they did before the accident. I feel the same way about the people who have some disfiguring problem and just want to look normal like the rest of us. But in my opinion, a lot of procedures make a person look worse: breast augmentation, colagen injections, botox, and that "one face-lift too many" look that Joan Rivers has made so famous. And these are cases where the plastic surgery has gone well. Then there's the cases where something goes wrong.... I think this culture is becoming obsessed with plastic surgery. I can think of at least three tv shows that center around it. There are other things that we obsess about in this culture that are worse, in my opinion. But the whole plastic surgery thing doesn't thrill me.

I don't think the surgery itself takes people away from God, but I do believe that people take themselves away from God by focusing on the wrong things. My eyesight is rather poor. Uncorrected it's 20/100, I have an astigmatism, and I am red-green colorblind. Except for glaucoma, it's almost you name it, I got it. One of these days, I want to have laser vision correction, not because of vanity or concern over the way I look in glasses, but so that wearing and caring for them will no longer be a problem. Im my case, I believe God will let me know when the time is right.Quote:
Well stated and I concur!
