Good post, Jonny. Like wise here. I usually get most of my taxes back, with 4 dependants and road expenses. Under the U.K. system, I'd. like I said, lose my house.

I have compiled a comparison between the UK and USA tax rates however I do not know how to attach the document since it does not display correctly if I copy and paste it.

However the salient points are as follows:
If you earn £36145 ($60109) or less, you would be taxed less in the UK than you would in the USA unless you are married and filing jointly.
If you earn £40000 ($66159) or more, you would be taxed less in the USA than you would in the UK.
If you live in the UK you do not have to pay medical insurance nor medical bills
If you live in the UK you get free healthcare

If someone works out a way for me to display the document accurately then I will do but until then you can work it out (it will take you awhile) from these sites:

Last year I made $38,000 and got back $2,000 more then what I paid in, with all my deductions, I qualified for what's called an earned income credit. It's hard to explain our tax system. The figures you see are the tax after adjustments. I can deduct $36 a day for every day I'm away from home. I can deduct the interest on my mortgage. I get, I believe, $1,600 deduction for each of my dependants.

. Taxes seriously confuse me lol. I don't know if our system has similar things to that.

They don't pay tax here either. $25,000/year is almost poverty here (I think that the poverty line is around $20,000). In your system those who are close to poverty would be paying higher taxes now than the richest in the United States pay currently (I'm going off the 40% for 40,000 pound figure you posted earlier).

I don't understand it myself! LOL! that's why I pay an accountant to do my taxes! All I know is that it would cost me more then insurance. I'd be paying for my family and someone else's that does not work, if that makes sense.

Exactly. If the government wants to start some sort of health care thing, it can do it, but it should be done on a voluntary basis, without income redistribution, and without tax dollars. We are already in enough debt as it is.

How does that work? To pay more taxes than the richest people in the United States (ie more than 35%) you need to earn more than $66000 over here which is triple the poverty line in the USA.
