The question however is whether prison is an appropriate punishment for rapists. If rape is all about asserting power then it seems to me that prison is a better punishment than castration. Unless the only point of castration is to humiliate. I would think tho that that would only further fuel the desire for domination, and there are certainly ways to get around the effects of castration, hormone replacement for example.

I don't think castration would do any good, personally and I think prison is a fine punishment for rape. The problem is that rapists get out of prison much too soon. I think people who support castration probably think it's a good idea because it's something permanent that they can't get out of. That doesn't make it a good punishment though.

Does anyone have links to rapist interview sites or such? I remember in college the crimmonlogy majors (I was a sociology major in the same buidling for one year) talked about crimminal databases where rapists in a mass project were interviewed for techniques tactics and strategy.

And that is exactly what you have reduced it to with this post.

Never was it mentioned that rape is a punishment... You jumped to this conclusion when reading because it is so taboo to say that when something bad happens to someone it can partly be their fault.

I agree with you brother. If that was the case, then the same can be said for robbery and murder. Oh! It was the victims fault because he/she was alone in the street at night. Everyone has the right to go out in public and be safe. What about people who are in their homes when they get raped. I know an OLD woman who was raped in her home by a neighbour.

It was not stated that it was their fault... People can share responsibility. The second the rapist is in 100% power anything after that is all on him... The potential victims actions leading up to the rape are their responsibility. Sometimes rape cannot be avoided, but there are times when it can be easily avoided if the victim had just paid attention to their surroundings.

While everyone has the right to go out in public and be safe everyone should take precautions based on their situation. We know rape happens and this is a fact of life. If you do not take reasonable precautions when you go out whatever happens to you is at least partially your fault because you did not take those precautions. Reasonable precautions would be things like "Don't go to parties alone if you know no one there" "Don't get drunk and have a stranger take you home" etc. etc. etc.

And what of people who are raped by someone they knew and trusted. Is it then their fault also? Should we trust no one?

It was never stated that all rapes are partially the victims fault, just that some are. Its interesting that so many of the arguments against Pardus are fallacies yet it seems to be ok to use them because its on the subject of rape.

A woman (or man) should not have to worry about someone attacking them and raping them if they aren't paying full attention to everything going on around them.

The same could be said a woman or a man shouldn't have to worry about a car hitting them when crossing the street if they are not paying attention. The cars are there, they do not always stop for pedestrians. This is a fact. The rapists are out there, this is a fact.

I think this whole partial fault idea is hard for people to grasp because what happens to the victim is so horrible. I do not think that many people are of the opinion that there is never a case of partial fault in anything (ie not looking both ways before crossing the street) but due to the fact that rape is so horrible it suddenly becomes impossible for someone to be at fault for their own actions prior to the rape.

I have been browsing genral searches for 20 minutes. I have looked at a few dozen websites and nothing but baloney and no info from interviewing rapists.

It is really annoying because they are, by the terms of their probation or parole under intense study for the remainder of their lives, by public agencies which by default should preclude the info uncovered is public information--minus the names of course.

Mestemia, I hope you understand what I'm getting at here. "A woman can ask for it" implies that her demeanor, dress or lack thereof, or whatever can "trigger" a man to attempt to rape her, which I'll hope you'll agree with me is complete BS. Men have to take responsibility for their actions regardless of the circumstance.

Now you're right that if she legitimately consents to a sexual encounter of whatever type, it isn't rape. And yes, she has the right to say stop at any time, and anything but immediate withdrawal on his partner's part is rape.
