I agree that rape is about power, not sex. But then that begs the question of why you think that castration would be an appropriate response.

I thought that was part of the reasoning behind prison. The person is deprived of his or her freedom, and must eat, sleep, etc based on a schedule imposed upon them. It's the not the removal of all power, but it's a lot.

I can understand and sympathise with your feelings (and I am temoted to think the same way too), but don't forget the prime principle of Law - which we will always need to insure is heeded - Innocent until proven guilty.

With rape, it must be difficult for juries to correctly assess whether some form of consent was given. What you are talking about is appeal; but how on earth could someone prove his innocence having been found guilty ?

I am tempted to agree with you about the punishment too, but the Christian in me thinks there must be another way to deal with offenders. Don't ask me how, because I haven't a clue.
