bbc-uk reports
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4243805.stm Ernest Mayr an evolutionary biologist who became one of the greatest researchers for evolution since Darwin. He lived to be 100 years old. Here is wikipedia's entry for him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Mayr with his research that led to the theory of modern synthesis came genetic drift as I (weakly) understand it. Gentic drift is a theory of random design. Is it an arguement against purposeful design (nonrandom design)? |

He was a remarkable scientist. I really enjoyed (among other things) his SETI debate with Sagan.

He also provided the modern scientific definition of a 'species'.
He will be missed. wa:do
