A question for creationists.

(All comments are welcome in this thread, but I would ask that only creationists vote in the poll.)

Is believing in evolution a sin? In other words do you believe that “God” commands you not to accept the theory of evolution? Do you believe that “God” requires you to stand firm in a creationists viewpoint.

Or do you believe that it would be acceptable to believe in the theory of evolution if the evidence were sufficient to convince you.

Webster's Dictionary defines religion as follows, "Cause, principle or system of beliefs held with ardour and faith." Surely this is an apt description of evolution.
Evolution is a 'belief system' i.e. a religion !

Models of science are subject to change for both creationists and evolutionists. But, the beliefs that these models are built on are not. The problem is that most scientists do not realize that it is the belief (religion) of evolution that is the basis for scientific models (the interpretations, or stories) used to attempt an explanation of the present. Evolutionists are not prepared to change their actual belief that all life can be explained by natural processes and that no God is involved (or even needed). Evolution is a religion to which they are committed. Christians need to wake up to this.

Um...no, it's a science. It's called a scientific theory.

Evolutionists are more than prepared to change their belief. That's the beauty of science. All it does is take the evidence we have and use it to formulate theories and laws. The best part about it is that fact that it is completely open to change. If new evidence comes along to disprove a current conclusion, that conclusion is thrown out. That's the biggest difference between science and religion. Science is more than willing to admit it's wrong and is always searching for new answers. Many organized religions think they already have all the answers and no further research is necessary.

The bottom line is that evolution is science. It is a belief, of course, but it's quite different from a religious belief.

For me, the evidence to believe in evolution will have to involve god. So, for me, evolution without gods hand in it, is not something i can honestly believe in. Darwin had a nack for pulling pranks on people when he was younger. Even though he contributed greatly to the world of biology, i think he might have made too many assumptions along the way. Assumption that is just impossible to prove, and hence have not been terribly scientific in his methods. So i will have to agree with another poster in this thread, that evolution is another religion.

What do you mean by “involve God”. Do you accept the theory electromagnetism? Does the theory of electromagnetism “involve God” in some way that evolution does not? Do you accept any scientific theory? Can you name any scientific theory that “involves God”?

ok, so I guess technically I'm not a 'creationist' per say... but I do believe in a creator and I am a working biologist.

I have no problems with evolution, no conflict between the facts of science and the subtle workings of my faith.

But since you are asking someone who believes in creationism, you didnt expect to get a different answer did you?

All of creation works on laws and principles, but the principles of evolution does not ring a bell in my spirit, and it has never been confirmed to me either in medition or study. Im afraid that there is just no light bulb going on, no feeling of enlightenment, no sense of aquiring truth, when i read the theory of evolution. Mabye the light bulb moment will still come. But after many years, im afraid the light hasnt gone on yet.
