Really.

Let's look at the only real hypothesis in ID: that there exists at least one entity that is capable of doing the following things:

- deliberately, intelligently designing various changes and mutations in living organisms to acheive some unknown ends.
- carrying out these changes and mutations.
- doing so in a way that is consistent with existing observations (i.e. so that the existence of this entity or entities is not immediately apparent, and can only be deduced by careful study of certain biological traits of organisms.

Please suggest what sort of entity might fulfil these requirements that wouldn't fall within the broad term "god".

you are still trying to place God into a theory that does not require God.

I assume this is in reference to the claim that ID is inherently religious.

This doesn't make any sense. ID is Intelligent Design. It is the belief that an intelligent being created the universe. That intelligent being is then referred to as God. It's that simple.

Where do you get this? There is nothing in this post of yours that is true. ID has nothing to do with science. It is the idea that an intelligent being created the universe. The "intelligent" in "intelligent design" refers to the creator of the universe, not to any old organism we find in nature.

You should check out the Wiki entry on ID. It'll tell you pretty much everything you need to know.
