What I'm looking for is a book from a thiestic evolution stand point. I would like to find something that has some factual information from the evolutionary side of things (ie, I read that scientist have performed various tests on how old the earth is, not just carbon dating which seems to be universally accepted as not the most accurate). I would like to read something that merges my christian beliefs with my scientific belief in evolution. From what I understand, this theory is the view point of the Catholic church.
I've searched on line and found a lot of books about this subject, but I would like to know if there is one book in particular that is widely accepted as the best. Thanks! |

I have yet to start the book but I believe "The Language of God" by Francis S. Collins meets the criteria of a theistic evolution book. He is/was(?) the head of the Human Genome Project so the guy knows his stuff. I believe he covers topics such as evolution, the Big Bang, and other related topics.

Your best bet would be to throw a dart at smattering of books on the subject and pick which one gets stuck. God is something that is, as of now, untestable. This means that any book dealing with the subject will likely be as authoritative as the next.

I have often recommend “Finding Darwin’s God” and I will recommend it again. It is just what you are looking for.
Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution – Kenneth R. Miller I really can’t recommend this book enough. Ken Miller has another book out, which I have not yet read. But I have found Ken Miller to be both brilliant and eloquent, so I will recommend it based on that. Only a Theory – Kenneth R. Miller But I also feel that I have to say that you could pick up any good book on evolution, and if you understand it, it shouldn’t interfere with your theistic beliefs. Why is it no one ever asks for a book on “theistic gravity”, or “theistic chemistry”, or “theistic nuclear physics”?

That was petty or ignorant or both. Perhaps you should concentrate on first locating "dictioary" [sic] in your dictionary.

Jay ~ FYI I don't understand why when I accidently leave out a "n" in a word it becomes "petty" or "ignorant". I didn't do it on purpuse so why did you chastized me. I asked a very simple question of Caylinwest - what is "THIESTIC"? Then you poped in with insulting remarks which I don't think is allowed on this forum. My over 1400 page New American College Dictionary that I have been using for 55 years dose not have that word in it. I hope Caylinwest will give me an answer. arlan

What does 'theistic evolution' entail?
