'Intelligent Design' Is Religious Argument, Not Science, Say Parents (beliefs, creation)

HARRISBURG, PA-The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and attorneys with Pepper Hamilton LLP filed a federal lawsuit today on behalf of 11 parents who say that presenting "intelligent design" in public school science classrooms violates their religious liberty by promoting particular religious beliefs to their children under the guise of science education.

True, but you don't have to be religious to consider astrology as a possibility either. The problem is not that ID is religious, but that it is not scientific. Check out the thread in the Science vs. Religion forum "Is Intelligent Design Theory Scientific?"

Actually HelpMe has a point.

ID was created to take the religion out of creationism to give it a more "reputable" face.
His point could loom pretty large in this lawsuit.

The problem arises in the actual teaching of ID in a classroom.
You cannot seriously discuss the possibilty without discussing who or what this designer us.
Thats where the religion comes in unless teachers give equal time to ET phenomena.

Intelligent design could be valid as long as one does not leave it at that. I'm not sure it is something that should be taught at school though. In school we should be taught how things work not why. 'Why' is for religion or whatever other path one takes.

Personally it was my favorite part of science class.
Evolution says NOTHING about Gods existance or lack there of.
Keep the religion in the church.

Evolution is a scientific theory that has been a part of main stream science for more than a century. It is usefull for showing not only how life formed, but the process a theory goes through from conception to modification and refinement. Evolution as it stands now is not the exact same theory that Darwin put forth almost a century and half ago.

If something like evolution threatens you religion so much, you need more/better faith. IMHO.
