Since I assume most folks would say we aren't a random event, that means that god has been controlling physical existance on earth on a second by second basis since the start of life. That puts a new sort of slant on any notion of free will. If we had no control over a portion of our physical destinies. Or were we just evolved to a certain point and then set free?
Existence is the result of a combination of limitation (order) and chance (chaos). And so are we. God may be as surprised as we are by the outcome. And maybe that's part of the point.

I believe God made the Earth to take care of itself and he created the creatures to be able to adapt to their environment. Science and God are not incompatible, at least I don't think so.

I have yet to hear scientifically how intimate matter becomes life. Never-the-less, I believe in evolution with God at the helm. There come a time when questions can't be answered and although there will eventually be a scientific answer, it will only lead to more questions. Matter had to begin somewhere and with all the engineering in the universe and the realities of entropy, it only seems far to try to understand the universal Engineer.
