The dinosaurs were not beautiful in my eyes, they were mostly functional, being enormous due to high oxygen levels they scattered massive amounts of plant matter and seeds wich caused the earth to become fertile over millions of years. I hope you are seeing my pattern of thought. And the earth is now a beautifull product of all the changes in evolution. Why is it so that humanity arises and can suddenly percieve all this beauty at a peak in evolution?

The question of the evolutionary purpose of the perception of beauty has several plausible explanations but I have not read into it yet to. As a suggestion, does it seem unlikely to you that humans who evolved to like certain colours that were displayed by edible plants (i.e. fruit) would have had an advantage over those who didn't, for example?

Sorry, I don't know a good deal about the subject. My thinking is a bit scatty.
Do you think the ability to experience/make judgments/assign value/categorise could have evolved?

The subject of this topic is specifically directed at phenomena, rather than biology.
