my friend is a roman catholic and contrary to major belif in her religion she does believe that evolution happened . She thinks that God created the universe , so the course of the big bang and evolution could occur naturally , the first step for humans having free will at the hands of God . She thinks that religion and science can work hand in hand in the right sort of situations , and that whilst science has firm evidence that has been proven (mostly) , that there is aslo a space for religion within it .

She believes in the God of the Gaps?
If so, the trouble with that is that the gaps keep getting narrower and narrower as science explains more and more. Since this sort of scientific progress has been going on now for 500 years, there's every reason it will continue until all the gaps are closed. Is she not aware of this? Also, if one wants to believe in deity, who is to say that deity wasn't born with the Big Bang, simultaneous with the expanding universe? Or that it was born a nanosecond later? Or a 100,000 years later? Why assume that deity created the universe rather than the universe created deity?

actually sorry to break it to you but most christians like me believe in evolution. and dont worry sunstone, christians always find a way to get through any science. i do so by accepting anything that is against my faith to be a test, and that this reality in itself is a test, therefore you can throw any science at mne and i wont care. so now. god will prevail in the end

I have seen a show that scientifically explained how the whole Egypt episode could have occured, with the blood in the water, the frogs, and the children dying, all the things that led up to the freeing of Moses' people. I think science will eventually catch up. Just because we learn how or why something works, and label things, does not make them any less miraculous. It just helps us better understand the creator. |
