I was wondering if an evolutionist could explain this to me. I was wondering why a dolphin would evolve into a mammal and then revert back to the water. I am not claiming this to be a fallacy of evolution, I would judt like to know more on the subject.

because during the great extinction all the large water preditors like the Icthyosaurs, Pleaiosaurs and the giant sharks died out. With this eccological niche open the oceans were full of food just waiting for something to come allong and eat them. It was a perfect place for the whales to go, few predators save for the occasional shark, and an almost limitless source of food.
it seemes to me to be the perfect reason to go back to the water. ![]() Thats why should people build boats and try to exploit the same resource. here is a website that should help... Dr. Thewissen is a renowed expert on Cetaciean evolution. http://darla.neoucom.edu/DEPTS/ANAT/Thewissen/ wa:do |

but it seems like with the limitless source of food more species would have gone back into the water

thank you all for the clarification on this topic. Again, this was not to bash evolution I only wished to seek more information.

they depend almost solely on the marine environment for thier survival and spend a great deal of time in the water themselves... so they have recently been added to the list of marine mammals... No ocean no polar bear.
