They're pretty much the same material as pancakes, only a bit stiffer and they're pressed instead of fried.

You can buy them frozen which you pop in a toaster, or the batter that you poor into a waffle iron. They're usually eaten with butter, maple syrup and sometimes fruit.

i am way off topic but my mouth is watering so i am off to the supermarket to look for these Waffles.

are they Belgian then? and i have been to belgium tried there many wonderful beers wasnt that impressed,bear in mind we live near France too but we dont eat snails or Frogs leggs. and we british are a pretty conservative lot we tend to mistrust anything "european"

Here, large, fancy waffles are called "Belgian Waffles"... in retrospect, though, it may be that expecting to find them in Belgium would be like looking for what we call french fries in France.
