Hasn't Germany learned enough about the effects of Nazism?

On Sunday, voters in the former East German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania gave the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party of Germany 7.3 percent, more than the 5% necessary to have a seat in the state parliament.

But the former East Germans seem to be having trouble finding their political feet.
Some of the traditional rightwing states in the old west germany are also showing signs that a proportion of their population are reverting to less than liberal views.

This may be more concentrated but no worse than the extreme right wingers in Europe and the UK and even the USA.

I'd say that the situation here is certainly no better and possibly worse. The only real difference is that in Germany the Landestags use a system of PR which means that even minority views get some representation, whereas here they do not, not so easily at least. Nonetheless, we still manage to get the neo-Nazi BNP elected to council seats. There will always, unfortunately, be some people who fall for racist/xenophobic political rhetoric, in any country. Nowhere is immune, and I actually doubt that the situation is much worse (or better) now than at any other time in history, whether prior to or since WWII.
