Default Big Dave?

What do you all think of David Cameron?

Also, what do you make of his chances of winning the next election?

This question is mainly directed at the Brits here, but anybody can give their opinion of him if they want to.

Personally, I don't like the guy. He's sneaky and at the moment, seems to be doing and saying anything to make himself seem likable, whilst at the same time, not putting forward any solid policies with which we can judge the man and his politics by, and any little sniffs of policies he might go for, have not looked good.

The possible outcomes of the next general election don't really look good. It's either big Dave, who would spend his premiership 'hugging huddies' and trying to get people to like him, or Brown, who's aims are to cut down Britain's growing population by taxing us to death, yes, that is possible.

I would amputate my arm before voting for a member of the Conservative Parrty, but the fellow does seem like a decent chap. His chances of becoming Prime Minister seem fair at this time.

Do you think there is a recognisable difference between Labour and Conservative , Coda?

I personally think hes a bit of a nonentity, i dont see a lot of difference between labour and conservatives, i dont think Brown has much charisma either come to that, once Blair goes , the leaders of both parties seem pretty boring to me , but you never know

I don't think there is much difference between Cameron's Conservatives and Blair's Labour, because I think Blair has adopted a few more traditionally right-of-centre policies - they both just seem to say/do whatever they think will get people to like them. However, I think that if when Brown takes leadership of Labour, provided he gets his own way, I think Labour will go back over towards the left because Brown is quite a traditional socialist. Should this happen, I'd imagine the difference's between the parties would become much more noticable.

You criticise him for not having any solid policies, but at this moment in time I think he'd be very silly to solidly commit to any big policies- there isn't to be an election for a long while.

Politics is obviously about populism, of course they're all going to do and say what they think will get them elected. Do you expect them to do otherwise?? The general public's political views are now all pretty much in the centre, the way one would expect the trend to go. So despite party political differences, they both ultimately want to get elected- so most of their policies will hover around the centre. Any far right policies would not be popular enough to get the Tories elected, so what's the point?

the problems David Cameron is going to have in the future, is more with members of his own party.
All the policies he has mentioned so far, have been an about-turn on all the the rightwing views enshrined by thatcher and her followers since.

He seems to be a sort of revival "one nation Conservative" following in the tradition of Ted Heath and his predecessors. This is hardly surprising considering his Upper Class background including an education at Eton.

What we have yet to find out is if he can carry his party with him.

If he can not do that he will not win any election as prime minister...

I am not yet convinced his image reflects what he truly believes...he may be far more to the right than he has shown so far.

in any event my vote will be, as always, with the Liberal Democrats.

Brown is not a dead cert to lead the Labour Party either; Do you know any of his policies other than fiscal ones...and those are not popular on the labour left.

I think we are entering interesting times.....

I agree; I am not convinced that Cameron has the 'wow' factor a leader needs. So much of modern politics is just 'for show' though; My younger son is a young Conservative, went to the anual party conference, and was told where to sit, to take off his tie..............

I honestly don't know who I would vote for; I am not convinced there are any genuine politicians.
