Default GAFCON: Way forward or way sideways?

The Anglican Communion comprises three broad expressions (I don't say "factions" for good reason). There are the evangelicals (low church), liberals (broad church) and traditionalists (high church, Anglo-Catholic).

Recently, as a result of the consecration of openly gay bishops and the blessings of same-sex marriages in certain North American dioceses, many North American evangelicals feel that the church has taken a step in the wrong direction (to put it mildly). They have not felt happy with the degree or sort of support offered from Cantebury, and so they have formed a new informal council that they've called GAFCON (I'm not sure what the acronym stands for).

FYI, here's GAFCON's final statement

Global Anglican Future - Holy Land 2008 - GAFCON Final Statement

Here's N. T. Wright, Bishop of Durham's statement of support of GAFCON:

After GAFCON by the Bishop of Durham, Dr. N. T. Wright

And here's N. T. Wright's statement of concern over GAFCON:

Fulcrum: Further Thoughts on GAFCON and related matters

It's a bit of reading, but I put it out there for your consideration and response. This isn't so much a debate as a discussion.
