Some twelve minutes ago the Church of England Synod voted by a large majority for women bishops.
There are no details yet But most concessions to conservatives had been voted down earlier in the evening. some lesser concessions were incorporated in the final vote. As an Anglican liberal I welcome the news.

That on the face of it seems an unexpected stance.
Are you of the opinion it will lead to a division of the church under separate leadership, or do you expect the Anglicans to remain a traditional broad church?

I think it's wonderful. I had all my kids christened in the C of I because it seemed the most liberal church around.
I think this is great news for liberals.

Just as another human being that believes in equality, I welcome the news. |

Quote:
As with the homosexuality issue, I think the church is under pressure from two forms of liberalism on this issue. On one side, we have those who are liberal about ethics; on the other side those who are liberal about ecclesiology. What I find disturbing is how easily those who are conservative about ethics slip into an ecclesiastical liberalism. That, as much as anything, is behind much of our problem as a church.

This is great news for the church, liberal, evangelical, and catholic.

I think that this is in accord with God's will and in the best interest of the Church. The days of misrepresenting scripture in this regard are fast coming to an end -- and none too soon!
