Purgatory exists in the minds of those who have misunderstood the root meanings of Ghena, Hades etc. and not understood the Fire of God and the energies of God being synonymous.
God’s “fire” that the RC and Protestants interpret as a physical fire that will burn forever is in reality the fire of His Love that the ones against God will have to live in to their displeasure and which will be to the pleasure of those who love and desire their Creator. If you get into the Greek of the Septuagint and understand the use of the meanings of the aforementioned words (especially where the "energy of God" is referred to) you can see that the suffering is our own doing and not the "wrath" of God. To fit the doctrine of substitutionary death, invented in the eighth century this and many other doctrines had to be invented to explain the change of the foundational dogmas that had already be established in the eastern Church which sees Christ suffering and death NOT please the wrath of God but to destroy "death by death" and grant life to a dead and dying world. Taking upon Himself the death we fell into that we may live by His Life which is the life that conquers death. http://joannicius.sovereign.us/River%20of%20Fire.htm and http://joannicius.sovereign.us/UNCREATED%20ENERGIES.htm subtitled the Light and Fire of God How else can we say "God is Love" If we make Christ's death an appeasement for God we Make Him one who made mankind just to send the majority into everlasting punishment. That is not the God I love and serve. Instead of a place called pugatory to expiate our sins, which the blood of Christ accomplishes, the understanding of varying degrees of heirarchy in eternity settles the "what if resultants" of the condition we die and lived in.

I've finished reading your links, and energeia was a big discovery when I found Orthodoxy. Prior to that, I'd learned to read Greek, and I read energeia and understood it as an active force akin to energy, and felt it should be translated that way. However, nobody did, and I feel very shakey if I'm the only one to interpret a text a certain way.
Still, I'd check commentaries, and they'd make a note about it. I'd check lexicons, and they made the definition clear. The contexts frequently juxtaposed it against dynamis, ergon, and so on, making it abundantly clear what the intended meaning was, but nobody translated it that way. Seeing Orthodoxy, an old Church (which is what I initially thought when I began to seriously look at it) teach it assured me I wasn't crazy .

I didn't know the mistranslation in my mind, but my heart told me there was something I wasn't seeing. Thanks to the good friend of mine who wrote the article and is writing a book with one of our local Priest on the subject.
There isn't an article, document, book, movie or anything man has produced of any consequence that is without bias. Most of the Scriptures and publications that we are aquainted with here in the West are post Great Schism (1054) and in general, I believe, society in the West (me included) has a very small, infinitesimal view of true Christianity and Christian living.
