If you're not an Aussie you probably haven't heard of the Chaser Team. They are an ABC TV comedy show team that poke fun at a lot of political and news related issues and love to dress up and fake politicians and other personalities then make some comedic stunt. They may have gone too far this time when they pretended to be a Canadian motorcade and dressed up as Osama Bin Laden and actually bypassed two security checkpoints to almost get to the US president. 11 tv crew members have been arrested, charged and released on bail. They were lucky they didn't get shot by snipers. Of course it's all over the news here and public opinion polls have started as to whether they had gone too far in their practical jokes this time. I'm not a real fan of the show and I do think they went to far myself, but I do find their humor at times quite good. What do you think about their stunt?

I love "The Chaser's War on Everything". I think it is quite funny, and it does makes good points about our culture.
In regards to this stunt, I thought that it was quite funny when I heard it, but it also makes a good point about the security of APEC. The crew managed to get within one block of George Bush himself! Imagine if the camera crew was actually a group of terrorists, not merely practical jokers for a government broadcaster. I wonder if this was mentioned in passing overseas?

No, I'd never heard of them, but everyone here has now! They're all over the national news today.
It's not just "in passing" either. It's so farcical it's something that can't be missed. The guy dressed as Osama is such a hoot! These guys will be the subject of late night comedy shows for days to come at least. I can't wait to see what Jon Stewart does with it. |

I just wonder how far they would've let themselves go if they were able. I mean, would they've actually tried to see Bush?

Lord, I hope not. Someone might've gotten trigger happy.

I think that was the next step.

I doubt it. These guys work on the premise they will get caught. Like the time, one of them put 2 kilos of sausages down his pants, strapped good steak to his chest and put mince under his hat: then tried to walk past a police drug sniffer dog checking commuters at the entry to a railway station.

There's already talk of the show going to commercial channels for multi-millions of dollars.

Oh, I hope so! I think their show would be a great fit for Comedy Channel here.
