He seems like a pretty good Prime Minister, as far as politicians go. A much better person than George Bush, John Kerry, or Tony Blair.

Much like Bush, Howard is pushing The Marriage Legislation Amendment Bill, (similar to the US version), which states,
Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

Yep, Amy, he had Phillip Ruddock, the Attorney-General strike down the ACT Civil Unions because they were "too similar to real marriage." So basically, if the ACT doesn't want the federal government to slam down the iron fist again, they have to water down their legislation even further.
Also, here in WA recently, Ruddock rejected calls from our state Attorney-General, Jim McGinty for the federal government to recognise even the basic rights for de facto couples that homosexuals have in this state. What's unfortunate is you could not even realistically call it a cross against the federal government's name in the way you could with the recent industrial relations laws (WorkChoices) or the debarcle with Iraq. The debate here is a mewling, simpering thing and homosexuals in this country are generally politically impotent.
