i think that in general societies would choose life in prison over the death penalty, it would be a minority that would choose the death penalty!

one could just as easily say "let him who is without sin lock her up" If you want to use that line of reasoning. you are just drawing the line where you like it.

Locking somebody up is violence. Sterilization is violence.

I have heard a lot of people say that it costs more and it isn't a deterrant. I would be interested to see a quote from a reputable source showing that it costs more, and there is no way to tell if it is a deterrent until the death penalty is given to everyone convicted of murder and done so quickly. Most criminals know that they can avoid the death penalty almost 99% of the time and even if they are convicted, they will likely die of old age before they are put to death (except texas where they may only live another 20-30 years) and most of these thugs don't think they will live to see 35 anyway so it isn't a punishment at all. You really aren't paying attention to the details of the issue if you make such a simplistic argument.

understood. but It is up to each society to decide. Not an individual such as you or me.

I didn't ask if you thought that being locked up is fair. I asked if you thought it was any less of a punishment than death. I don't think it is.

why is it inhumane? because you said so?

and?

those societies who want the death penalty can have it and those who don't don't. Why are you trying to force your morality on my country? the UK can lock its murderers up and we will kill ours. Like I said, it is up to each society to decide.

EDIT: oh yeah. and I am still waiting to hear why you think it is ok to kill innocent babies and not guilty criminals....

It's more of a punishment from my point of view, and it's inhumane because it's another persons life/soul that is being destroyed and who has the right to decide thats right? Nobody!

In todays civilised society the death penalty is no longer needed nor has it ever been.

All i can say is i feel really sorry for those who damned people to the chair/injection when karma comes round and bites a huge chunk out of them! I love karma
