I'm having fun comparing the tone of coverage in Europe and the United States. It really is interesting!
I read an article from Germany that practically made a joke of the voting process. It referred to the "Help America Vote" act as the equivalent of an ignorant mother telling her little children the sun revolves around the earth. It talked about how the Americans are using $5,000 US machines to mark ballots when a pencil works just as well, etc. Commentary on OBN (Bosnia) included, "One could argue the American people are oblivious to the rampant corruption and flirtation with tyranny because their partisan media refuses to report such issues. I, on the other hand, truly believe the American people are simply stupid. It's a far more plausible explanation, really. You could sit them down and force-feed them the internationally recognized truth about their practically fascist government and they'd still vote Republican, clutching little crucifixes as they wail their Lord's name: Bush, Bush, Bush!" (FYI, Amira is always that rude, even in relation to Bosnia). Stories from the UK and Ireland are having headlines like, "Americans finally set to punish Bush", etc. French news seems to be relatively indifferent, the American elections aren't getting nearly as much coverage there as elsewhere in Europe. Other coverage in the Balkans is, as is always the case here, pessimistic. They're detailing how, even if the Democrats take the House and the Senate, not much will change, or be able to change, in the short-term. And how about elsewhere?

Of course, we could have "fair" elections where the media covers people faithfully shuffling to the polls in true democratic fashion, only to have the votes destroyed by the party in power and a landslide victory declared.
Unfortunately, the US coverage of world news isn't deep enough to get past the faithfully shuffling part. Showing the democratic process is usually good enough to satisfy the masses ![]()

We've all had a good chuckle at the ridiculous political attack ads over in the US.
Do politicians there actually have policies, or do they just try to slander each other into submission?

Yeah, greeting the plebs and kissing their grubby little offspring while pretending to like the same common things they like is a good way to appease the mob. ![]()
