Reaction to Shooting In Aurora CO Theater.

By now, I am sure many of you have heard of the shooting and mass murder that occurred early this morning in Aurora, CO. The theater this occurred in is less than a mile from my old home in Aurora.

Apparently, James Holmes came in through an exit door to a midnight screening of the new Batman movie, threw a smoke grenade, and opened fire on theater goers.
12 people were killed and over twenty remain listed as injured in local hospitals.
No motive for this attack is known yet, and the suspect is in custody while police attempt to safely enter his booby-trapped apartment.

In a transparent attempt to use this tragedy to his own advantage in support of supposed Judeo-Christian values, Republican House Representative Louie Gohmert of Texas made the following comments.


WASHINGTON -- Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter. During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation's "Istook Live!" show, Gohmert was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded by talking about the weakening of Christian values in the country.
"You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of a derelict takes place," Gohmert said.

What are your thoughts on Gohmerts comments in relation to what is actually known so far about this tragedy?

I didn't want to do it. Difficult....very difficult, to face public discussion about it.

OK....I don't want to set off a storm of argument, but if he had tried that while I was
watching the movie last nite (er...this morning), I'd have taken him out pretty quickly.

I find that I can't view it in a religious or political context at this time.

I am reeling from the thought of such a thing happening, and I find other people's opinions (media or politician's) to be irrelevant to me at this time. I'm just feeling sad. I lived in Colorado for a while a few years back. I still have family there. This feels too close to home for me to see it any light other than grief for the people involved and their families.

Yeah, the political hay to be made from mass shootings is really offensive.
Criminy, that guy....how on Earth does someone wind up being like that.
I've read that he was a neuroscience student.

I don't see how anyone from any perspective has enough information yet (unless privy to details we don't know about) to offer an opinion of what was the cause of such a tragic happening.

Info is just beginning to come out, & if the Zimmerman/Martin affair is any indicator, much of it will prove to be wrong.
