What, if anything, should be done about the woman from Georgia who ran away from her wedding?

Some folks are saying that she faces up to five years in jail, if the authorities decide to prosecute.

I heard she went missing, but I had assumed it was because she was kidnapped. After hearing about it initially, I heard nothing else. Could you update me on what went on?

It turns out that she got cold feet about her wedding. So she cut her hair and took a bus to Los Vegas, then to New Mexico. Finally, she called her fiance from New Mexico and confessed that she'd run away, but not before first telling him that she had been kidnapped, which was false.

Here's a Yahoo story with more details. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor.../runaway_bride
Not only is she facing criminal charges for making false statements to the police about being kidnapped, but the city of Duluth is considering filing civil charges to recoup costs of searching for her. Since she bought the bus ticket a week ago, her kidnapping story was premeditated. I hope she gets the psychiatric help she needs. This past weekend, my wife & I were helping with a VW show in Duluth, a mile of 2 from where they lived. It's a little disconcerting to know the local police were tied up chasing her lies instead of being on regular patrol.

i think the humiliation she's gotten so far is enough...the idea of pressing charges is stupid

To now say something equivalent to "gosh, she must really be embarrassed; I guess that about evens things up" seems to me symptomatic of a far to liberal attitude towards social and civil responsibility. At the very least she should be fined to cover the costs of the police effort.
