Imagine what that man must have gone though, actually not yet a man, torn between duty to his country and the knowledge that what was happening was wrong. I say, give the guy a break! Those were hard times to live in and I think it is a testament to his personal character that he made the decisions he did.I'll be watching to see how he handles things, but it's wrong to condemn him right at the start.

I am a catholic and very happy to have a new Pope. I have a jewish friend at work who has a very sarchastic sense of humor. He made the following statement today upon hearing of of the Pope's appointment, " Oh, how comforting, a German Pope who was a member of Hitler's youth program!" After work outside, I teased him and said , " So, how about our new Pope?" He said , " Yeah a Hitler Youth who is also not very favorable to the gay community." So I said, " Oh comon, Ron, lets give him a chance, what could happen?" To this he replied, " They gave Hitler a chance too."

It is to my mind, the most unfortunate thing that Adolf Hitler and those who followed his way blindly, virtually condemned his country for all time to be maligned because of the atrocities that were perpetrated upon the Jewish people and many other who were not Jews. Now the media converges like a flock of vultures to open old wounds, and incite prejudice, just to sell papers. I cannot stand before you and say that I have never picked up a paper or magazine simply because of the headlines, for I have done just that. But as another has said before me, once inside the article, one comes to realize that once again the publication has gotten my money because they sensationalized a topic, drew me in and then lost my interest in the first few lines. I can honestly say that now, having grown in wisdom, I do not read such things, for I know what they are.

This Pope has just been appointed, he was very close to John Paul on a daily basis. Who is to say that he won't do the proper things? Give this man the benefit of the doubt. Let's see if he can bring the German people into a better light by the virtue of his actions and love as a Pope and a man. I pray the Pope Benedict XV1 will be blessed by the hand of God and lead the people of all nations and beliefs to a greater understanding of each other. Amen!
