Each question is worth 10,000 points, you may answer one question or all of them and the competition will continue until all 5 have been successfully answered. Some are harder than others, but I've tried to keep them moderately easy for Western Europeans and Americans.
Question 1. a) Who is the woman in the centre of this photograph? b) What year was this photograph taken? c) What is her religion? ![]() Question 2. a) What city is in the two photographs? b) What language do residents of this city speak? ![]() ![]() Question 3. a) Roman Catholics celebrate All Saint's Day. How is it that Orthodox Christians, who do not, still celebrate more Saints than Roman Catholics? b) Why is Mother Theresa considered a Saint among some Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Muslims? Question 4. a) Which of these songs is not performed by a Muslim. 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRoY1E2wyBI 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvF5idVRWbw 3. http://youtube.com/watch?v=bJwZjHjxEOk b) In the first song, where are all the men going? Question 5. The clock on this train station hasn't moved forward a second since July 26, 1963. On that day, thousands of people in the city where this train station is located were injured or killed. Where is this train station located, and what destroyed it? ![]()

I took the last one first--because I actually recognized the building. On July 26, 1963 there was an earthquake in Skopje Yugoslavia that killed at least a 1000 people.

Now question 2--the building in the background of the 1st building looks like the Hagia Sofia to me--so I would say the city is Istanbul Turkey. So I will go out on a limb here and say the language would be Turkish?
oops I think Comprehend beat me to it on Istanbul.

It's not Istanbul, guys.
But kateyes did win the first 10,000 points for guessing correctly. July 26, 1963, was the date of the Great Skopje Earthquake in what is today the capital city of Macedonia. Most of the existing city was destroyed, except for the old Albanian Muslim quarter (which was built in Eastern style, which developed with earthquakes). So today the city is largely communist in architecture, which is really quite sad. ![]()

Question 1.
a) Who is the woman in the centre of this photograph? It's obvious from her banner; that's Miss Ssiw. ![]()
