One more hint... when I was there, it became very clear that the residents of this city view more or less the rest of the entire world with some chauvenistic pity. There's a lot of racial tension with Eastern people - especially Arabs and Asians - who pass through here on the smuggling routes to the European Union.

There's absolutely no visible presence or visible impact of Islamic extremism, though. There's two different populations in the city. There are the ones that have been there for centuries, including those of Bosnian descent, and there are the new arrivals from other regions of the same county, and internationally.

The locals think the newcomers are noisy and show off their money too needlessly. "That's not Islamic!" they'll say, while sunbathing topless.
