Hi there, newguy and just shootin off a quick q....
i've been married to a christian(not sure type) wife for about 4 years now, still lovin the whole deal ![]() only thing that is even close to sensitive between us is religion, she asks me what i am i never know how to respond; i'm not atheiest (at least dont think) cuz i dont really care about what her or anyone else's views are. and i'm not against any religion even though i dont take part they are great systems. Not scientology (dont have enuf money :P) Not agnostic (never really got into whole god idea) and the raw definition doesn't really sound like me. 1 : a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god 1- i kinda lean toward no, cuz never seen anything godlike imo. 2 : a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something <political agnostics> 2- i'm pretty commited in my ways cant stand offensively pushy people, but i never tell other people their wrong, jus do what you want and lemme do what i want. Over all beliefs are just dont care, i try to rationalize stuff with my wife and usually she gets all mad. Not being mean at all, just straight conversation. i dunno if that's a category but with the 100's of different religions out there i could only assume that my type of thinking would be labeled something ![]() Thanks, HAVE FUN! |

Welcome to the forum
![]() I realise you don't actually care about whether or not a god exists, but just ask yourself the question "do gods exist?" and limit your answers to yes, no or maybe. If the answer is no, then atheist is the best description for you, if it is maybe then agnostic is probably the best description (I realise the dictionary definition indicates a particular viewpoint, but most people also view an apathetic stance as agnosticism). If you are interested in religion but not in gods, perhaps you should look into Humanism/Universal Unitarianism. Just a thought.

They say you should never talk religion or politics at parties so here is the place to do it.
Welcome aboard Cheers

Why would someone who doesn't care about religion want to be on RF?

I agree with Shyanekh in that you have to ask yourself what you do believe in. Is it a God? A Goddess? Multiple Gods? Multiple Goddesses? Multiple Gods and Goddesses? Creation? Evolution? The answers to the questions that you can ask yourself can lead to the label that you desire.
He may have come just to have these questions answered.

I remember while serving my mission in Taiwan there were several people like this. I never knew the word for them either, we just called them "沒有信教" (meiyou xin jiao), which basically means "don't believe in any church." Basically, they were people that weren't against anything, but found no use for it in their lives. Which is just the point: I think, if you believe in anything, it ought to do something for you, and you ought to get something out of it. If you find that you won't, what's the use? I have opinions like that on several things. A trivial example, perhaps, would be a movie or a book. I have nothing against it, and I realize why it's popular, and I'm glad that several people enjoy it. I just have absolutely no interest in watching it, and I don't believe I'll get anything out of it. I think there ought not be anything wrong with that.

From the way you have defined your position, you are clearly an agnostic. Why don't you believe that you fit the definition?
Wait a minute, I think I misread your post. You simply want to be free from the oppinions of others. Maybe your a libertarian, or an anarchist. The African pygmies are pure anarchists. For more than five thousand years they have never allowed any rule making... Last edited by theosopher; 12-05-2009 at 08:07 PM.. |
