2002 General Social Survey A major national survey with questions on religious self-identification, denominational affiliation, church attendance, personal beliefs, and religious upbringing. The survey includes nearly 1,000 questions on a wide range of topics. The 1998 General Social Survey has an additional module on religion. Churches and Church Membership in the United States, 1990 (States) (Counties) These data sets contain statistics by state and county for 133 Judeo-Christian church bodies, providing information on the number of churches and members. The same data for 2000 is available in Maps and Reports. National Congregations Study The NCS data is the first nationally representative sample of American congregations. Annual Church Profile for Southern Baptist Convention Churches, Sunday School, 1995 The Southern Baptist Convention Annual Church Profile seeks to preserve Southern Baptist history while collecting data on the ministries occuring in Southern Baptist churches. This file includes data on membership, worship, attendance, Sunday school attendance, and budget for each curch reporting. Religion and Politics Survey, 2000 The Religion and Politics Survey is part of the larger Public Role of Mainline Protestantism Project. This national survey addresses respondents' views on political, social, and religious issues, their political actions, beliefs, and affiliations, and their religious actions, beliefs, and affiliations. ABC News Beliefnet Poll, 2001 This June 2001 poll asked a random national sample of 1,022 Americans to identify their religious affiliation and give their views on stem-cell research, political affiliation, and abortion. American National Election Studies, 2002 This study examined dozens of substantive themes including: voting, public opinion, interest in political campaigns, attentiveness to media coverage, and political participation. Religion variables include indicators on religiosity, congregational affiliation, church attendance, and financial contributions to church.
